National Unemployment Stabilizes as Pennsylvania Unemployment Continues to Fall

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its June jobs report, showing that the U.S. added 372,000 new jobs, though the national unemployment rate remained unchanged for the fourth month in a row. The U.S. unemployment rate has been stable ever since it dropped to the pre-pandemic level of 3.6 percent.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry released preliminary June data, which showed that while unemployment in the state is still higher than the national average, the gap is closing. The U.S. unemployment rate has remained steady at 3.6 percent since March, while Pennsylvania has decreased unemployment every single month of 2022, falling to 4.5 percent in June. That brings Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate down below the pre-pandemic rate in February of 2020, which was 5 percent.
